Adult Education Organizes a variety of courses and workshops throughout the year, led by members or by the minister. These programs provide opportunities for stimulation, fellowship and growth to participants. Topics offered may include seminars or discussion workshops on philosophical topics, child rearing issues, congregational life and religious studies. Programs centered around books, articles or movies may also be offered. Members and friends of the Society are encouraged to contact the committee if they have suggestions for new programming. |
| Arts and Amenities - This committee arranges for the exhibition of artwork, and cares for aesthetics of the entrance hall and meeting room. Though open to suggestions by the congregation and Sunday School, the Arts & Amenities Committee should be consulted before any additions or changes are made to these areas of the building. Our objective is to present an attractive and clutter-free first impression when entering the building and make the meeting room pleasant and conducive to a spiritual environment. |
Building - Organizes occasional volunteer maintenance, minor repair, cleaning and painting projects involving both committee members and non-members. The committee also monitors fire alarm, heating and plumbing systems, major repair needs, cleaning service, trash disposal, and pest control problems. The committee consults with the Administrator about solutions, where appropriate, or arranges directly for services from outside contractors. |
Grounds - Cares for the entire property outside the building: the parking lot and driveways, lawn, front porch and all plantings. We do pruning and some planting, keep the grounds clean, and maintain contact with the lawn and snowplow services. We also maintain two gardens, one for vegetables and perennials, and one for herbs, and maintain the garden shed and hoses. |
Music - Focuses on the musical aspects of this religious community. It is responsible for the maintenance (tuning, etc.) of the meeting room piano. It communicates regularly with the music staff (currently two pianists) to ensure a pianist is available for each regular service. It encourages and organizes additional musical participation during the service by musicians of the congregation or outside artists. It fosters ways to include music in other aspects of our society such as religious education, social events, etc. A review and recommendation of the music budget is conducted each spring. |
Public Relations - Publicizes Sunday services and other Society events in local media. |
Social Events - Plans day and evening social events throughout the year. Meetings as needed. No budget. Tries to plan events which pay for themselves. Profits go to Fund Raising. |
Straight & Gay Affirmation (SAGA) - SAGA is the Welcoming Congregation (WC)* committee of the FUSW; one of its goals is to increase awareness of the WC program and to support the congregation as it grapples with the issue of whether or not to declare itself officially welcoming. SAGA discusses and publicizes gay rights issues and works to promote tolerance toward gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals in our Society and in society. SAGA has sponsored educational programs including panel discussions on gay youth, tolerance workshops, and video screenings that explore aspects of gay life. The committee is responsible for the annual Gay Pride Sunday service. (*Welcoming Congregation is a UUA designation for a congregation that has made a strong and specific commitment to being openly, enthusiastically welcoming to members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.) |
| Technology/Office - The Technology subcommittee oversees use of, plans for and implements technology as needed for the smooth operation and continued growth of the Society. |

Men's Group - Discusses themes and topics of interest to men, although women may attend. The topics are selected by the group. The group leader schedules a meeting once a month and writes the dates on the Society calendar. Mailings are made to those who may be interested in attending. |
| Women's Group - Meets monthly on the first Friday at 12:30 p.m. for lunch. Our program evolves from the interests of our members. All Society women are invited. |
| Youth Group - The Board of Trustees and the RE Committee support the Group and its activities. The Group has a budget to help pay for its activities. |
