Programs and Activities at FUSW
There are many ways to get involved and find community here at FUSW.
Here are our regularly scheduled activities: |

Continuing Religious Education: A series of workshops for adults, ranging from 3 to 6 weeks at a time. Workshops include topics such as "Parents as Resident Theologians", "Creating your own Theology" and book discussions. When CRE is in session, it meets on Wednesday evenings at 7:30. The band performs for FUSW functions and makes itself available for outside benefits as well. Rehearsals are usually on selected Friday evenings at 7:30 and occasional Saturday afternoons. CONTACT APRIL CASTOLDI. Junior Youth Group: Friday night sessions are scheduled for Middle School youth (6th, 7th and 8th graders) on alternate Fridays (usually the second and fourth) from 6:30 to 9:30. Dates are listed on the calendar . CONTACT BARB CAPLAN OR JANIN GUNDERMAN. Program Groups: Program Groups are an enduring and cherished tradition of the First Unitarian Society of Westchester. They are an excellent way to become involved in the Society’s activities and to meet new people, even if you are a long-term member of the Society. Each year, members and friends of the congregation are divided into four Program Groups, each of which takes the responsibility to organize two lay-led services during the year. Generally, this process starts by each group meeting and socializing during a pot-luck dinner organized by the leaders of that group; the group also decides on ideas for their Sunday service during this pot-luck and decides how responsibility will be shared amongst members of the group. One or more follow-up meetings may also be necessary but these are generally much briefer. Three or four people generally give short talks during the service but many others are involved in a wide variety of other ways. Participation in Program Group activities is one of the most enjoyable things you can do at the Society. If you are not already assigned to a group, please contact us and let us know. Finally, your comments and suggestions about the groups are welcome. CONTACT SHARON DEVOS AND RASHID SHAIKH. Parenting Coop: The Parent Co-op is a cooperative group of FUSW families who join together two Friday evenings each month for an intergenerational, inter-RE class inclusive playgroup. Kids play with kids, adults play with kids, adults talk to adults, everybody eats and has fun. Scheduled parents stay "on-duty" at the Society, providing dinner and supervision for the children, who bring games and toys from home to share. (No TV!) "Off-duty" parents have a free evening! Meets the second and fourth Fridays of every month from 6:30 to 9:30. CONTACT BARB CAPLAN. Men's Group: Meets the third Friday of every month at 7:30. CONTACT PAUL GROSS. Women's Daytime Group: Meets the first Friday of every month at 12:30. CONTACT ADELAIDE DIGIORGI. Women's Evening Group I: Come whenever you can! A "Drop-In" group that meets the second Friday of every month at 7:30. CONTACT JOY CARROLL. Women's Evening Group II: For those that want to commit to a monthly ongoing group. Meets the third Friday of every month at 7:30. CONTACT JOY CARROLL. YRUU Youth Group: (Young Religious Unitarian Universalists) High School youth group activities include social action projects, youth-led services, attendance at youth conferences, and a variety of fun, community-building activities. YRUU has an event each weekend, some evenings, some off site, and meets some Sundays at 10:45. CONTACT CARTER SMITH OR STU CAPLAN.
