Create Community
Get Involved
At First Unitarian, it is easy to get involved. Whatever intensity or scope of involvement you seek, there is a place for you here. At FUSW you can:
Create Community – FUSW has a rich and vibrant set of small communities within our larger community. Join a women or men's group, book group, potluck party group, support group, junior or senior youth group, or the choir.
Take Action – do something that matters - become part of a Social Action group dedicated to helping people in our local area and the world.
Care for FUSW – support the FUSW community with your time and talents.
You don't need to be a member of First Unitarian to get involved, but when you are ready to become a member, let us know!
For detailed descriptions of all the activities and groups you could enjoy, click on the links above or on the individual menu options under Get Involved.
Joining Together
At FUSW, there are many chances to grow spiritually and emotionally through socializing with other members and friends. FUSW hosts many social events, and most people also find community in active participation with the primarily social groups that are found on this page and in the primarily organizational groups found on the Care For FUSW page of this website.
Social Groups:
Potluck Committee - The purpose of Potluck Committee is to extend our opportunities to connect with each other outside of regular FUSW events. The dinners are strictly social, with no specific topics of conversation. They are designed to be especially welcoming to people who may not know others well or who feel uncomfortable in unfamiliar social situations. Anyone hosting a potluck chooses the date, time and number of participants.
Men's Group - The Men’s Group meets monthly to discuss themes and topics of interest to men. Check the calendar for dates.
Women's Groups - In the Women’s Groups, like-minded women come together with an open heart and a listening ear as we share our personal experiences. The Daytime Women’s Group meets monthly on the first Friday at 12:30 p.m. for lunch. The Evening Women’s Group meets the third Friday of the month, 7:30 – 10:00 PM.
Book Group - The Book Group selects books for spirited discussion.
FUSW children and youth also have social groups. Please see the Children and Youth section of this website for more information on Youth Groups.
Performance Groups:
FUSW Coffee Hour Choir - Our intergenerational "drop-in" choir meets most Sundays at 10:30 and performs once or twice a month during services and at holidays.
First U Rock and Soul Revue - Jam with friends with FUSW's own rock and jazz band. Performances are given a number of times during the year.
Spiritual Groups:
Small Group Ministry - Share your spiritual journey with a small group of caring individuals. Under the direction of a trained facilitator, Small Group Ministry Fellowship Groups meet twice monthly to discuss values and the universal challenges of life. The groups bring people into deeper relationship with each other, and help them to form stronger connections to FUSW. Small Group Ministry Fellowship Groups exist so that people can explore their personal beliefs, get to know one another, and share their individual spiritual journeys.
